How do you know that something is “hip” and “cool” in indie gaming society? Well, you hop on a band wagon a bit too late, as I did, since Minecraft seems to be the next big thing in gaming society in general. Ugly? Well, sort of, if you’re accustomed to modern photorealistic gore splatters. Java? That’s not a real programming language for games! Well, that may not be the most efficient, and yeah, it might stutter sometimes. Should be banned as illegal narcotic? Hell yes.

I just found out that the amazing physics based hammer-swinging game, Hammerfight by Russian Konstantin Koshutin and previously known as Hammerfall is available to purchase on Steam for €6.99. It has actually been available for a while as fun-motion.com reported it last Autumn. I'm gonna get the game so I can see how much has been improved and added to the commercial version compared to the free demo. I'll write a review afterwards, so wait for it (or get the game yourself if you are curious enough).
I did a feature on the Hammerfall demo on the old Alt+Games site, and now seems a good time for a re-run in the new site. Here you go:
I think that the FunMotion blog entry about this game started it. The Hammerfall v0.21 demo posted on a Russian GameNow.ru forum by a user with nickname GKosh has raised interest and inspired numerous blog post among indie game bloggers recently. I dl'd the demo and now it's official: I'm joining the bandwagon. Hammerfall is indeed a very promising and innovative action game demo for Windows machines.
Steampunk Action
The player controls a stempunk-style flying copter thingy which drags a massive rock on a chain behind it. The basic idea is to swat at enemies by swinging this rock-in-a-chain. The copter is controlled with the mouse; the rock follows behind following the laws of physics (yes, this game uses physics engine, too). The player can swing the rock into action with a circular flying motion.

This article is a port and update from my previous Alt+Games site . I'll post these in our new site once in a while as I return to the games I've covered earlier.
A review of IGF07 finalist: Gamma Bros offers tight-grip 8-bit-neoretro-shoot' em up action in your web browser.
Gamma Bros is a Flash based web shoot 'em up game developed by Pixeljam Games. The game was one of the finalists on this years Independent Game Festival's Web-based Games series, and was edged out by Samorost 2, which won the series.
The game operates similarly than other vertically or horizontally scrolling shooters, with one crucial exception: besides moving his/her starship on all four directions (with the arrow keys) the player can also shoot in each direction (with the a, s, d and w keys). The enemy waves come from every direction and the action is twice as hectic compared with traditional shoot 'em ups. An excellent innovation to the 2-D shmup genre and it works really well in practice too.

Tämä artikkeli on uusintajulkaisu vanhasta Alt+Games-blogistani. Julkaisen näitä uudestaan uudella Alt+Games-sivustollamme aina kun törmään näihin vanhoihin peleihin uudestaan. Edellisen artikkelin julkaisun jälkeen Depths of Perilistä on ilmestynyt Mac-versio, joten julkaisen tämän artikkelin päivitettynä nyt.
Depths of Peril on Soldak Entertainmentin kehittämä yksinpelattava toimintapainotteinen tietokonerope Windows- ja Mac-koneille. Pelissä pelaaja ottaa barbaariklaanin johtajan roolin ja pyrkii juonittelemaan ja taistelemaan itsensä koko Jorvikin kaupungin kuninkaaksi. Peli on mielenkiintoinen yhdistelmä isometrisesti kuvattua perustietokoneroolipelitoimintaa tehtävineen ja tasonnousuineen sekä Civilization-tyylistä klaanienvälistä diplomatiaa. Pelin demo on saatavissa pelin sivuilta.
Täysi versio maksaa 19.99 dollaria. Peliin sisältyy 30 päivän rahat takaisin -takuu.

In my previous post we quickly took a glance to Evochron Renegades, a space combat, trading and exploration game in the vein of Elite and such. Evochron (and other Starwraith-series games are made by Shawn Bower, who kindly gave a bit of time to answer few questions through email.
