Killer coming in the footsreps of Killer 7? Yes, I'm talking about the new Wii title: No more heroes, from which Gamasutra has written an in depth article. Wii is lacking a killer article. I think that no-one really disagrees with that, even if Super Mario Galaxy has got some attention. Even if it has been nominated with petty titles like best game in the whole world.
But maybe the audience just is bored to plumberman. Maybe.
For some reason I'd feel a bit... well, not happy but probably would smirk a bit in case No More Heroes would become the number one hit for Wii. I Have the impression, that the game is at least violent, even if it's not a complete slaughter fest. For a console more known from baseball gaming with big headed and cute Mii's, that's a bit of something different. And in my opinion, a bit out if the traditional Nintendo scope. Okay, it is year 2008, and maybe Nintendo isn't anymore associated with just 'cute' games, big heads and anime-like visual style. This far, No More Heroes seems to be more like traditional computer game, with semi-free world. Altought this is critisized a bit on the gamasutra article by: " Bozon feels that No More Heroes' free-roaming elements don't always gel with its action-based gameplay. "What it all boils down to is about 10 or so stores and buildings to go into, a handful of mission points that bring you into new loading zones, and some mini-game jobs which are fun, but hardly necessitate an entire open world," he explains."
Don't know if this is because of lack of capacity? Claims of Wii's capacity vary much, at least I have heard variations raning from GC to 'matches XBOX360', but my guess is that it depends on what kind of technique is used. Wii has no harddrive as such, don't know if this straight affects on the possibility to make open worlds? Probably not, Elite III had the whole freaking.... universum and three disks. Those 1.44MB ones. Hard to say how what kind of reaction No More Heroes will get from consumers. Some ciritcs praise it, even though they seem to admit that not every piece has found the right place. Unfortunately, these have been the words said from earliere articles as well, and this seems to be the trend with Wii games in general. Unfortunately. Is it so because of hardware limitations? My guess would be 'no'. We just need better game design.
