Massive multiplayer online roleplaying game. For last years this has been the trend for network multiplayer games, but rarely seen on new generation consoles. New generation meaning 'those capable of network gaming', I'm not that interested in the fact that what is generation X and generation Y hardware. As far as I recall, Nintendo has been in the past most succesfull in trying to implement MMORPG kind of game to their console. Why haven't others?
Nintendo had it's Phantasy Star series.. Okay, I admit that the series was really not restricted to Gamecube or other Nintendo consoles. Dreamcast was actually the first one (untuil someone corrects me) to grant some sort of online goods, but well, At least in Finland that was the time when so called broadband internet access was really not too common, if even existent. And unfortunately Dreamcast was very under rated console anyway. I have never tested Phantasy Star online. I doubt that the idea of MMORPG in consoles has had any potential, until newer generation consoles have arrived.
If I have understood correctly, the XBOX live relies much on voice communication. Hard to say, if that would be a good thing in multiplayer universum capable of massive player amounts? Could be, if some sort of filtering is made, but that would then be just playing-with-your-friends kind of thing, with NPCs acting a bit more erratic than usual. Where does Wii fit in this picture?
