This series of articles will document my online rpg campaign Kingdoms in Flames, a rpg set in the Hyborian Age as depicted by Robert E. Howard in his Conan short stories. It is a campaign, meaning that it is a series of stories, each spanning one or more play sessions. It's online, meaning that we will be playing over the 'net with tools such as Skype , TeamSpeak , OpenRpg and Vassal Engine . It uses the rules of Dust Devils rpg. The setting is the Hyborian Age from Conan stories, in particular the Kingdom(s) of Koth and nearby areas.
The article series will consist of two kinds of articles: Session reports and in-depth coverage of specific areas of the game. Session reports will be more narrative whereas the coverage articles will thrive to cover specific areas (such as the tools used in the game) from many viewpoints.
In this article I will kick off the series by providing a short introduction to the campaign.

There are lots of people in my flat right now. They are playing Galaxy Trucker and Guitar Hero III on Wii right now.
And I know exactly why they are here. They are here because I invited them. We're having the second game weekend (tm) of all time. A lot of people who I wouldn't have figured out to be here are here. And it is fine. It is more than fine. It is fabulous. Out of fables.
I mean, this is really great. My friends here because of the activities I proposed. And for you (potential) people in the central europe, the travel times have been excessive. They don't care. they just want to spend their time with each other (and me). So, kudos for them.

Tonight it's a roleplaying game night. It has been a while since the last time, so I'm quite thrilled. One thing has always been present in those sessions, especially when played face to face: snacks. Aye, the little thingies that you eat while gaming.

I'm proud to be a trucker! A Galaxy Trucker that is. The newish board game (2007) by Vlaada Chvatil published by Czech Games Edition officially rules! Here are the first impressions.
The game can be played by groups of two to four players. The playing time is about an hour, allthough it can be tailored to fit the constraints of the playing group.
The game consists of three rounds that have a basic two-step structure: First the players build their Space Freightersand then they test them in action trying the makethe most profit.
The game's backstory is simple (from the game's website ):
Corporation Incorporated, the galactic leader in sewer system construction,
is looking for can-do guys and gals to haul materials to remote regions
of the galaxy. Must be willing to fend off meteors, smugglers, and pirates.
Experience working with aliens a plus.
Earn copious cosmic credits with bonuses for speedy delivery.
Become a Galaxy Trucker. It's loads of fun!

Roolipelaaja (Roleplayer) is a finnish magazine that has shed some light upon a hobby far too little know. In the latest issue they featured Fantasy Grounds II, which is a program that should ease up pen&paper gaming through the Internet. I have to admit that I wasn't fully satisfied to the article.
